Strictly speaking you could do without a cover for your Tempurpedic mattress. However, there are reasons why it's a good idea to have one. Also, you could buy another brand but, if you do, you should make sure its specifications are as good as the Tempurpedic cover. Here's what to look for.
People with degenerative spondylolisthesis or osteoarthritis may prefer an adjustable bed (one that is at a slight incline) as it minimizes joint compression. This type of bed may also be helpful for those who suffer from gastroesophageal reflux (GERD). Patients who have hip bursitis (inflammation of the bursa over the hips) are especially susceptible to pain from a mattress that is too firm. Thick pillow tops or egg crate mattress pads may provide some relief.
When buying any product especially high priced products it is very important for the consumer to do their homework before forking over their hard-earned dollars. There is a feature of mattresses that every manufacturer promotes that is not for the benefit of the consumer but is a great benefit to them. That feature is the foam-encasement feature. For those of you who are not familiar with this feature, it is the three or four inch wide foam boarder that encases the innerspring unit of a mattress. Manufacturers promote this as a feature that expands the sleep surface and firms the edge of a mattress. This is complete nonsense!
Have you ever walked into a bedroom and been greeted by a musty, stale smell? There's a high chance that smell is caused by a dirty mattress. Since mattresses retain so much waste, they can give off a less-than-pleasant odor. Regular cleaning and maintenance will help your mattress smell fresh.
