If the thought of testing out a bed sounds a little too hit and miss you could try the Kingsdown patented computer system - called DormoDiagnostics - that they claim takes the guess work out of choosing a mattress. It scientifically determines your unique body profile, and specifies the Kingsdown mattress that is best suited to your needs.
Because memory foam mattresses are viscous and are made of polyurethane, they are less hospitable to mildew and mold and dust mites than traditional mattresses. For this reason, memory foam mattresses do not need as much cleaning as mattresses made of other materials. However, it is a good idea to air a memory foam mattress, much as you would a spring mattress. To air a memory foam mattress, simply select a warm sunny day. Open the windows and let as much air and light into the room as possible. Then strip the mattress of all bedclothes, sheets, mattress pads, and covers, and allow the memory foam mattress to breath in this manner for the day. Simply remake the bed as usual in the evening.
I really have to disagree on this. In Europe, boxsprings are almost unheard of and we don't seem to hear them complaining. Also, with a mattress like a Stearns and Foster, that is sometimes more than 12" thick and needs two people to carry it, it really ought to be good enough to support the sleeper. Other companies, selling latex and memory foam mattresses, don't recommend a boxspring, so why Stearns and Foster recommends one for its innerspring and latex versions is debatable. I sometimes wonder if it's just a ploy on making more money by making customers believe they need this 'extra' support.
